Among the Trolls releases on 14 October 2026 on Windows PC via Steam, and it launches as a full 1.0 rather than in Early Access. That last part was a genuine change of plan, and the developers explained it themselves: rather than sell you a slice of the story, they chose to ship the whole thing.

Why there is no Early Access

In April 2026 the studio published an unusual announcement. After reading forum posts, watching demo playthroughs and reviewing playtest and demo surveys, they concluded that the game's greatest strength was its story and the atmosphere Anna moves through. Trying to satisfy a hardcore survival itch and tell an intimate supernatural story, they wrote, risked doing neither particularly well.

Their decision: skip Early Access and move straight to a full 1.0 release in 2026, so that every hour of work went into world-building, quest design and atmosphere rather than into maintaining a slice. They were also candid about scope, saying the industry was in a tough spot and that they had decided on a single-player experience, prioritising quality over quantity, with expansion to be considered after 1.0 depending on performance and feedback.

What that means for buyers

  • You are buying a complete story. The studio's stated reason for skipping Early Access was to avoid giving players only a slice.
  • It is single player. Multiplayer was considered and is not part of the launch experience; the announcement was explicit that this would disappoint some people.
  • English at launch. The full game was announced to launch in English, with localisation to be evaluated later. The demo was English only.
  • The demo remains the cheapest test. It is free and it is still the best way to find out whether the slow, atmospheric pace suits you.

What changed during development

The project has had a long and public life: announced in 2022 by the original team, restarted from scratch in 2024 under new management, moved from Unity to Unreal Engine 5, and pushed from a 2025 Early Access target to 2026 and then to a full release. Through it, the store page has kept the same promise: Finnish mythology, survival, and the mysteries of Anna's family.
