Map and locations in Among the Trolls
The archipelago is Anna's childhood island plus the ones that rose with it. The cabin is your base, ruins hide patrolling enemies, portal arches mark dungeon entrances.

The Among the Trolls map is an archipelago: Anna's grandfather's island, the smaller islands around it, and the ones that appear as the two worlds are pushed together. There is no published coordinate list, so what follows is the locations the game's own material names, and how they relate to each other.
The places the game names
| Location | What it is | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Grandfather's cabin | Remote, isolated, deep in the forest | Your base, and where the story starts |
| The target range | Behind the cabin | Free bow practice |
| The dock and shoreline | Where Anna arrives | First objectives, and a reminder of the water |
| Forest ruins | Old structures in the trees | Patrolling enemies were added here in the demo |
| Island lakes | Inland water | Safer than the open sea, still tiring |
| The Deep Sea | Water away from the coast | A hard boundary that distorts the world |
| Kynnykset (the Threshold) | Where the portal arches stand | Entrances to dungeons |
| Dungeons | Behind the portals | Story, guardians, resources, alternate exits |
Reading the geography
Every island shares the same shape: sandy shores that stretch into deep water. That is deliberate, because it makes the coastline the game's main decision point. Close to shore, water is survivable. Beyond it, stamina drains faster and the world turns hostile. The intended answer is a bridge, not a brave swim.
The forest itself is dense and layered: birch and lichen where the portals stand, older trees for timber, clearings around human structures. Ruins appear both inland and on the beach, and where ruins are, patrolling enemies were added during the demo period.
Portals change the map
Portals are solitary stone arches that look almost out of place among the birches, marked with a symbol Anna recognises. They stand in the kynnykset — the Threshold — and were forged by the tietäjät, the shamanic keepers of the islands. Their function in map terms is simple: each is a door, and each door has a destination that a Portal Page unlocks.
Then there is the part that resists mapping. As the story progresses, more islands appear around the archipelago, filled with creatures made of wood and stone. The map is not a fixed quantity you can clear; it grows as the balance between the worlds breaks.
A sensible exploration order
- The cabin and its clearing, plus the target range.
- The shoreline around the starting island, noting where bridges make sense.
- The nearest forest ruins, cautiously — expect patrols.
- One island lake, to test how water behaves before risking the sea.
- The first portal arch, only with a Portal Page and provisions.
- The first smaller islands, by bridge, one at a time.
